<p><strong>Bash</strong> is a <ahref="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Unix_shell">Unix shell</a> and

href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Command_language">command language</a>written by <ahref="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brian_Fox_(computer_programmer)">Brian Fox</a> for
the <ahref="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GNU_Project">GNU Project</a> as
a <ahref="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Free_software">free software</a> replacement
for the <ahref="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bourne_shell">Bourne shell</a>.
First released in 1989, it has been distributed widely as the default
<a
href="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Login">login</a>shell for most <ahref="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Linux">Linux</a> distributions
and <ahref="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apple_Inc.">Apple's</a><ahref="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacOS">macOS</a> (formerly
OS X). A version <ahref="https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Windows_Subsystem_for_Linux">is also available for Windows 10</a>.</p>
